After completing his studies in the UK, Dr Tedros returned to Ethiopia working in the delivery of health services, and served in government for 10 years as Minister of Health and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Dr Tedros has served on numerous public health boards, including Chair of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. He became Director-General of WHO in 2017, the first African to do so, and he led the organisation’s global response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He embodies LSHTM’s mission to improve health and health equity worldwide.

Quote from Dr Tedros: “Nelson Mandela said that education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change this world. That’s what this institution is doing every day; changing the world.”
