Response to rise in London tube and rail fares

Dr Diana Beech, Chief Executive Officer, London Higher said:

“The decision to freeze bus and tram fares for another year will come as a relief to many Londoners as cost of living pressures remain high. The planned 4.6% increase in tube fares will nevertheless create a significant pinch on the purse strings of those Londoners who have no other option but to use the service to get to work or their place of study. Even at current levels, TfL fares can be a strain for London’s students living on tight budgets. Introducing further support, such discounted tube travel for students during peak times, could go a long way in ensuring London’s public transport system remains accessible to all.”
