Response to The Sutton Trust’s ‘Unequal treatment’ report: Implications and recommendations for London
London Higher has produced a response to The Sutton Trust’s recent report, Unequal treatment? Access to medicine for socio-economically disadvantaged students. The report raises important questions and makes key recommendations for the UK’s medical schools.
London is the home address of a large number of medical students and the site of six of the UK’s medical schools. As a result, London Higher has evaluated some of the report’s implications for London. AccessHE’s prior work tells us that many talented London students lack the guidance and opportunities that could support them to progress to competitive courses like medicine. Making the medical school admissions process equitable, transparent and easy to navigate for learners of all backgrounds is of great importance for London.
In this response, London Higher sets out five actionable recommendations that aim to support widening participation efforts in medicine.
