AccessHE is the pan-London network supporting underrepresented learners to access and succeed in higher education (HE). We were founded in 2011 and are a key division of London Higher.
We facilitate collaborative outreach projects and student support initiatives that bring together HE providers, schools, colleges and local government. Our work helps to ensure that Londoners – especially those from groups less likely to enter or benefit from HE – are effectively supported across the student lifecycle.
Our practitioner-led Action Forums support staff in developing innovative approaches to widening access and improving student outcomes. Other projects that we run are student-facing and provide opportunities for Londoners currently in or considering progressing to HE.
Through our role co-delivering the Uni Connect Programme and the Mayor’s Academies Programme in London, we help to align our members’ widening participation activities with social mobility policy objectives at both regional and national level.
We are the largest regional membership organisation of our kind in England, representing 28 HEI members as well as an Advocates network of over 200 schools, colleges and sector partners.
AccessHE has a Steering Group, which reports to the London Higher Board and comprises representatives from the HE, FE, and schools sectors as well as employer and local authority members. The Steering Group provides strategic direction to AccessHE and helps us to maximise the impact of our work in London.
AccessHE’s current Chair is Professor Nic Beech, Vice-Chancellor of Middlesex University London.
