The 2025 QS World University Rankings bring positive headlines for the capital. The London region continues to lay claim to half of the four UK universities in the top 10, with Imperial College London becoming the highest-ranking UK institution in second position, and UCL celebrating its 13th year among the top 10 universities worldwide.
With five universities in the top 200 – including an impressive jump up the table of 25 places by Queen Mary University of London – London’s higher education sector has shown great resilience in the face of increasing financial pressures for UK universities.
Although this year’s results mark a stronger result for the capital’s institutions against a weakening position of universities more generally across the UK, we should not take this excellence for granted if we want London’s universities to continue to punch above their weight on the world stage for the benefit of Global Britain. The Study London campaign due for launch on 12 June will help show the world just how remarkable London universities are and ensure London’s higher education sector continues to attract the best thinkers, innovators and entrepreneurs to go on to power growth across the capital and country.
