Degree courses across the capital have ranked top in the world in today’s QS Subject Rankings across a range of disciplines, underscoring London’s status as the higher education capital of the world.
London Higher members claimed the top spots in creative arts, life sciences, education and humanities, showing how the capital’s higher education offer sets the global standard. This year’s results also show the capital’s sector in upward trajectory, with new entries to the top rankings and institutions climbing across disciplines.
In creative education, the Courtauld Institute of Art reaches the global top spot in History of Art for the first time, whilst the Royal College of Art and University of the Arts London rank first and second in the world for Art and Design. London’s conservatoires add to this picture, with the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Royal Academy of Music, and Trinity Laban all ranked among the world’s best in Music and Performing Arts. The capital’s creative industries are world-leading because its creative education offer is unmatched – today’s rankings affirm that.
London’s strong performance spans a range of disciplines – in life sciences, the Royal Veterinary College holds the top spot in the world in Veterinary Science, whilst UCL climbs to sixth in Life Sciences & Medicine. UCL also retains its top world ranking in both Architecture and Built Environment and Education, and enters the top ten in Biological Sciences. LSE rises in Social Policy, Anthropology, and Marketing, whilst SOAS reaches second in Development Studies.
Commenting on the results, Chief Executive of London Higher Liz Hutchinson said:
“Whether you want to study creative arts, life sciences, engineering, or the humanities, you will find a world-leading institution here in London. That breadth and depth of excellence, across so many disciplines and so many institutions, is what sets London apart – and its benefits extend far beyond the capital, driving innovation, skills and economic growth across the whole of the UK.”
