The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), one of the UK’s leading drama schools and a world-renowned conservatoire for the performing arts, has joined London Higher.
The School joins a membership community of more than 70 universities and higher education providers across the capital, further strengthening London Higher’s established network of creative and specialist institutions.
LAMDA has played a central role in Britain’s performing arts sector for more than 160 years, training generations of actors, directors and theatre-makers whose work has shaped culture in the UK and around the world. Its graduates contribute to London’s position as the best city in the world for culture, with alumni working across stage, screen and the wider creative industries.
London Higher is working to ensure London’s higher education sector is locally loved, nationally valued and globally leading, bringing together universities, conservatoires, specialist and research institutions to champion their contribution to the capital’s cultural, economic and civic life.
Welcoming LAMDA to London Higher, Chief Executive Liz Hutchinson said:
“London and LAMDA’s stories are deeply intertwined. As one of the world’s leading conservatoires, LAMDA plays an integral role in the talent, culture and creative industries that make London the global creative capital.
We are delighted to welcome LAMDA to London Higher and look forward to working together to champion the contribution of creative higher education, ensure the voices of London’s specialist institutions are heard, and shine a light on the extraordinary talent and impact they bring to the capital and beyond.”
Professor Mark O’Thomas, Principal and Chief Executive Officer at LAMDA, said:
“As an institution rooted in London but with a national and international reach, LAMDA is proud to contribute to London’s reputation as a leading global centre for creative education.
We are excited to join London Higher and play our part in their mission to speak up for and showcase the capital’s world leading creative and specialist institutions and how vital we are to all that makes London the best city in the world.”
