London Higher welcomes the recognition in the Government’s newly published Industrial Strategy of the vital role higher education institutions will play in delivering growth.
It’s members, which represent the full diversity of Higher Education provision in London, are at the forefront of all of the eight sectors that have been identified for growth particularly creative industries, life sciences, digital and technologies, professional and business services and financial services.
Commenting on the publication of the Industrial Strategy and the accompanying sector plans, London Higher’s Chief Executive Liz Hutchinson said:
“London’s diverse range of higher education institutions power the industries that the government have rightly identified as key to the UK’s future health and prosperity.
From equipping students with the skills businesses need, to pioneering research and innovation, and providing the exceptional support that enables spin-outs and start-ups to thrive – London’s higher education sector is a key partner in driving sustainable and inclusive economic growth across the UK,
Most of the UK’s fast growing sectors are virtually synonymous with London, not least the creative industry in which graduates from our universities, colleges and conservatoires dominate. People want to study and invest in our capital city because of its global reputation for culture, commerce and opportunity. Continued support for the London’s growth sectors is essential to a strategy that seeks to build up all regions by leveraging their unique strengths.”
