Response to the UK Government’s International Education Strategy

Commenting on the UK Government’s new International Education Strategy, Liz Hutchinson, London Higher Chief Executive, said:

“London Higher welcomes the new International Education Strategy, which recognises international students as vital contributors to the UK’s economy, research base and communities.

London’s higher education offer is unparalleled, and it is no surprise that over 200,000 international students choose to study here every year – more than any other city worldwide. As the strategy makes clear, international students benefit all of us: they strengthen London’s economy, enrich our communities and power world-leading research.

We know that London’s businesses see the city’s global graduate community as key to their success, and so any emphasis on export must go hand-in-hand with ensuring the UK remains an attractive destination for international talent. In London, we will continue to work with the Greater London Authority, London & Partners and other partners to convey the message to the world that this is a welcoming, safe, tolerant and global city. This must be part of a nationwide effort to signal that the UK is open to global talent.”
