Professor Karina Rando
Minister of Public Health (Uruguay), London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
Prior to studying at LSHTM (MSc Public Health, 2019), Professor Rando worked as a medical doctor in Uruguay, where she specialised in anaesthesiology and liver transplant surgery. She chose to move into public health so that she could help improve the general health of populations around the world. She cites the economic evaluation and public health policy aspects of her LSHTM degree as crucial to her success in her current role in government. Karina still sees patients alongside her ministerial position and has 17 years of teaching experience at the University of the Republic in the Chairs of Biomedical Engineering, Pathophysiology and Anesthesiology.
