Our response to the results of the Teaching Excellence Framework 2023

Commenting on the results, Dr Diana Beech, Chief Executive Officer, London Higher said:

“I have always said that the magic of London’s higher education sector lies its richness and diversity, with over 50 different providers across the region, each offering a unique student experience and educational specialism. Today’s TEF ratings confirm that excellence exists right across the capital, with Gold ratings being awarded across different provider types – from London’s small but mighty specialist institutions, including the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, the Royal Academy of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama, to the larger, multi-faculty institutions of Kingston University London and Imperial College London.

At London Higher, we are proud of all our members, particularly in light of the additional challenges associated with providing a high-quality student experience in the capital. The TEF outcomes must however be taken in context and are just one of many ways to inform student choice based on historical data and panel judgements. For this reason, we caution against the financial penalties for providers falling in the new fourth TEF category, particularly given the current climate of rising operating costs which are hitting institutions in the capital hard.”
