LONDON, UK, 12 June 2024 – Today London Higher relaunches the ‘Study London’ campaign, a major initiative aimed at promoting London as the premier global destination for students seeking world-class higher education, a unique student experience and unrvialled career prospects.
The campaign, formerly run by London & Partners before its closure in 2021, will work to complement the British Council’s Study UK campaign, mirroring core messaging around employability, world-class education, and student experience but with a London focus. It highlights stories from real-life London students and graduates, sets the record straight on popular misconceptions, and also gives a flavour of what student life in the city can look like.
The dedicated website, www.studylondon.ac.uk, contains profiles of the city’s universities, allowing anybody accessing it to see the variety and breadth of opportunities available. The website benefits from the integration of the ApplyBoard tool on partner university pages, creating a smooth application process for students. The campaign will primarily have a digital focus, also hosting content on X, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn. London Higher urges the capital’s universities, businesses and other stakeholders to take part in creating their own content through using the campaign toolkit.
There is nobody better to speak to their experience studying in London than the students themselves. “It was a bit of a culture shock at first, but the people here are really polite, really supportive, and I found some lifelong friends,” says Ashleigh, an undergraduate student at Brunel University London, “I recommend London to anyone who is just trying to experience life to the fullest.”
Students featured in the campaign also discuss advice for others looking at London as an option. For example, Pavithra, a postgraduate student at the Royal College of Art says that her advice for anyone wanting to study in London is “to be open minded, be curious, be fascinated by everything that you find.”
Dr Diana Beech, Chief Executive Officer, London Higher said, “The ‘Study London’ campaign aims to restore confidence in London as a safe and welcoming city and show the true cultural diversity and inclusivity of the capital, and by extension the wider UK. ‘Study London’ is about using the best tool the UK has – the draw of its capital city and world-leading higher education institutions – to boost its international competitiveness. We will see it as a success not only if this campaign sees more students applying to London, but also to universities right across the UK.”
Lord Johnson of Marylebone, former Universities Minister, former Minister for London and Chairman of Futurelearn said:
“With over 50 higher education institutions, including two of the world’s top universities, London is one of the UK’s biggest export successes. Studying here means becoming part of a global community that offers unparalleled opportunities for growth, innovation, and discovery. London and the nation also gain immense benefits in return – financially, culturally and in the form of soft power relationships that go on to give the UK a competitive edge in the global marketplace. London Higher’s relaunch of ‘Study London’ will put London where it belongs – at the heart of the UK’s efforts to welcome students and researchers from across the globe.”
London Higher will be celebrating the launch of this campaign at an event on 18 June, at UCL.
