London Higher has today submitted a response to the APPG London as a Global City enquiry into fostering London’s position as a leading global city.
The submission outlines the opportunities to be had in fostering London’s global status, such as growing international student numbers and bolstering the UK’s research and development (R&D) talent pipelines, alongside the challenges from Brexit and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To ensure the city’s continued global reputation, we call on Government to put London’s higher education sector front and centre of future international education strategies. London institutions should also be given equal consideration in strategic funding schemes, such as the Levelling Up Fund, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the Strength in Places Fund to ensure London gets the resource it needs to serve local communities and continue attracting international talent.
